His wide-ranging innovations in energy, security, environment, and development have been recognized by the Blue Planet, Volvo, Onassis, Nissan, Shingo, and Mitchell Prizes, MacArthur and Ashoka Fellowships, the Benjamin Franklin and Happold Medals, 11 honorary doctorates, honorary membership of the American Institute of Architects, Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts, Foreign Membership of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, and the Heinz, Lindbergh, Right Livelihood, National Design, and World Technology Awards. He advises governments and major firms worldwide on advanced energy and resource efficiency, has briefed 20 heads of state, has served on two Defense Science Board task forces on military energy strategy, and has led the technical redesign of more than $30 billion worth of industrial facilities in 29 sectors to achieve very large energy savings at typically lower capital cost. His latest academic chair was as a 2007 visiting professor in Stanford University’s School of Engineering. In 2009, Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world, and Foreign Policy, one of the 100 top global thinkers.
Kris Sweckard

Kris Sweckard is a Managing Director in the Management Services department for the City of Dallas. He is responsible for leading the Office of Environmental Quality and the Efficiency Team. Kris joined the City of Dallas in 2004 as Director of the Efficiency Team. Since his arrival, the Efficiency team has led City-wide projects to improve processes, increase revenue, and decrease costs. These projects have resulted in added value of over $20 million to the City, as well as additional non-monetary benefits. The Efficiency Team has also worked to implement a Quality Management System based upon ISO 9001 standards in select City departments. Six departments have been registered by a third party auditor as having met the standards.
In February 2010, Kris's responsibilities increased to include the Office of Environmental Quality, where Kris can merge his professional position with personal lifestyle choices that his family has been making for years. Prior to joining the City of Dallas, Kris was in management consulting for 10 years in the private sector, focusing on process improvements, change management, and technology implementations.
